Sigulda’s past is rich in historical events. You will know the history of the castles of the Teutonic Knights’ Order of the 13^th century and the castle of the bishop of Riga. Up till now only the Turaida castle remained. Sigulda is also the centre of the well known Gauja National Park situated along the coasts of the Gauja River – the most insidious river in Latvia. Sandstone caves, hilly riverbanks, ruins of the medieval stone castles make this town very unique. It is also a favorite resort for tourism throughout the year but the most colourful and bright season in Sigulda is autumn. Sigulda is our popular leisure destination and a famous place for winter sports and competitions. It has got a nice bobsleigh route and various downhill skiing routes.
